SOM - SOMALIA
Somalia was an Italian colony from the end of the 19th century to 1941. From 1936 to 1941 it was part of Italian East Africa (A.O.I.), together with Ethiopia and Eritrea. After the Italian military defeat of 1941, Somalia was occupied by British troops until 1950. From April 1st 1950 to June 30th 1960 became a United Nations trusteeship known as the Trust Territory of Somaliland, Under Italian administration. From July 1st 1960 it became an independent country. Somaliland is an exception: before 1960 it was a British colony, while since 1991 it has been an independent state not recognized by the international community.
